ABOUT TEAM186
TEAM186 Promotions, Inc started out in January 2007 as a collaborative effort between Steve and Alex Hunter to provide Championship Caliper Motocross Racing in the great states of Kentucky and Indiana. This father and son race team actually started on Easter Sunday in 1992, and just like most MX race families, "Team186" hit the road: 50cc, 65cc, 85cc; racing Loretta Lynns and Ponca City; annual Thanksgivings at Gatorback; a few long drives home from Mammoth Mountain and Vegas; and finally racing several AMA Pro Outdoor Nationals between 2004-2009. Racing in nearly every state over the last 20 years, including several "other" state championships, the TEAM186 guys knew someday "Kentuckiana" would be the premier racing region in the USA. Why?? Its top notch tracks, perfect midwestern dirt, great weather and its central location in the eastern United States. In 2006, infamous Daniel Boone track owner and KY State Series creator Jerry Hebel asked Steve and Alex if they wanted buy the 4 year old Kentucky State Series. Rider turnout had started to drop, but buying the series sounded like a good idea, and TEAM186 moved from race team to race promotion. TEAM186 became TEAM186 Promotions Inc.
In the Spring of 2007, the revamped series was merged into a Multi-State Regional Championship, with the goal of attracting riders from every state east of the Mississippi. New Sponsors included Yamaha, Tucker Rocky, Radioactive Energy Drink and Toyota Trucks as the 1st ever series national title sponsor. The time seemed right for a new name...and the 2007 Toyota Trucks Bluegrass Championship MX Series was born.
The Toyota Trucks Bluegrass Championship MX Series gained momentum each year with 2008 having the best rider turnout to date in its short six year state championship history, with a record of 5,100 rider entries from 19 states. Kawasaki joined Yamaha in the Bluegrass Series and in 2008 Team Green helped push total factory contingency to over $113,000 for the 2008 series. Another first for Kentuckiana!!
Indiana's own Mammoth East, became the highlight of the Bluegrass Championship as the MX Series Final. The 2008 Mammoth East race was the biggest Bluegrass Series Event to date with 957 riders over the two days of racing. In 2009, the Bluegrass Series was purchased from Team186 by MAXXS Inc, and in 2012 the KY based series, founded by KY race legend Jerry Hebel is still going strong under the direction of TN race promoters Victory Sports.
Team186 set in motion a transition in 2009 from running a multiple state MX series to specialty race promotion; web-based video production; web site and graphic design services; and race track management services, including track design and safety consultation.
